2017 in Review: Autodesk University

Here's what we learned at AU2017!

With the year's end rapidly approaching, we are taking some time to look back at what was our largest conference in 2017: Autodesk University 2017 in Las Vegas, NV. There we joined more than 10,000 professionals from the architecture, design, manufacturing, and media industries for three days of learning, inspiration, and in-depth skills development. The KTrack team participated in the conference in many different ways, maintaining a booth in the expo hall, attending small sessions and even hosting a large sessions titled "FM Handover - How Do You Know You Got What You Wanted?'

How was KTrack received?

Throughout the conference we met many like-minded professionals who could relate to a shoddy FM handover process. All agreed that it is a huge industry problem and that there is little being done about it. Because there are no industry norms to regulate the process, many are left confused and without the information they need to maintain their properties. The amount of data they are given is overwhelming. One of the themes we noticed at Autodesk University was the concept of building solutions that solve problems for a wide breadth of users. We felt confident that we are doing just that with KTrack. Our lead sales rep mentioned how booth visitors reacted to the product: "Everyone loved the interface. That was the number one compliment we received and that alone really helped keep people engaged. We did a good job separating us from products like BIM 360, Procore, etc. Most GCs have trouble giving the owners something they can drive into their CMMS. They really like that we offer that as well but we are not making anyone have to leave what the owner already has (Maximo, Archibus, Asset Works, etc.)." Our booth visitors also loved our mobile capabilities, they far outshined others in the space. Because of the nature of the show, we received a lot of interest in various integrations and integration with Autodesk Revit in particular. We are happy to share that integrations and other features are top of our list moving into 2018.

With another successful show in the books, the KTrack team is full steam ahead in 2018. Look for product improvements, additional integrations and more from the KTrack team!

Here's where to find the KTrack team at Autodesk University.

It's nearly November and that means the KTrack team is busy preparing for a trip to Autodesk University, a conference held in Las Vegas where 10,000+ professionals from the architecture, design, manufacturing, and media industries will gather for three days of learning, inspiration, and in-depth skills development. Catch up with the team while we perform demos in the exhibition hall and present a special session geared toward building owners. Here's where to find us!

Exhibition Hall Booth C400

The KTrack team will be showing on the exhibition floor at booth C400 in the Construction and Operations area of the exhibit hall. Stop by the booth to meet our team, to demo our product and to learn more about our giveaways. Session BLD144923: FM Handover – How Do You Know You Got What You Wanted?

Join us on Thursday, November 16th from 9:15-10:15am as our CTO Owen Knott presents, 'FM Handover - How Do You Know You Got What You Wanted?' a session designed specially for building owners and managers, general contractors, BIM/VDC managers and more. The session is unique in the catalogue based on its focus-- the facilities management handover process and how it affects the building owner. Attendees can expect to see real-life, relevant examples of the handover process and how our handover tracking tool, dashboard and scorecard are revolutionizing the otherwise disorganized process. Plan to walk away from the session with an understanding of the value of implementing owner handover templates, the vendor collaboration techniques required to create a successful handover strategy and the benefits of an owner-driven handover process.

The class description:
Would you believe a new middle school requires 300,000 data points & 35,000 documents at handover? Learn how industry leading Whiting-Turner satisfied the handover requirements on that project and repeated the process across multiple projects and industries. Building owners struggle to define handover requirements and standardize project deliverables for their portfolio. Contractors struggle to efficiently provide that information at handover. This session will demonstrate how owners; using their own handover application, can create handover templates and then work collaboratively with stakeholders to satisfy their requirements.  Whiting-Turner will demonstrate how they have successfully utilized KTrack to define handover standards with owners, including data and document requirements. Whiting-Turner will showcase how it manages stakeholder handover responsibilities, ensures quality and accuracy, and guarantees timely and complete handover deliverables utilizing the KTrack Handover Scorecard.

3 Key Takeaways from BIMForum 2017

KTrack Attends BIMForum 2017 in San Diego, CA

The KTrack team recently attended BIMForum at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina. The conference is designed to attract industry participants from around the country to participate in a larger conversation about innovation in the building industry. This was the KTrack team's first time attending the conference as an exhibitor and we were happy to hear consistent, positive feedback about our recently released platform.  This year’s conference theme closely paralleled KTrack’s own product development focus: “What does the building owner want?”

Main Takeaways from BIMForum

According to our team, the main conference takeaways reinforced the work we have been doing in the field for the last year. The dozens of demos we performed were well received, and many of our industry contemporaries let us know that the KTrack tool is something they would use in the future.

They were impressed with the depth of the program and especially like that it was built from people who have facilities management experience from the ground up.

Our takeaways?

  • We're on the right track. There is a need for a product like KTrack in the industry. Anyone who has ever had to dig through a mountain of building information to find a tiny detail they need for their building maintenance has been waiting for a product like this for a long time. Offering a collaborative and moderated data collection process is valuable to these owners.

  • The building owner needs to be happy. We had the opportunity to speak with many building owners who still struggle with organization and facility data handover. We have made it a goal of ours to change the process so that building owners benefit.

  • The industry still has a long way to go, but we're on the right track!
