Architect Of The Capitol - Cannon Office Building - Washington, DC

Constructed in 1908, the Cannon House Office Building is the oldest of the House of Representatives office buildings. Originally constructed as a four-story building, shortly after completion the Cannon Building was expanded by the addition of a fifth floor to accommodate the need for additional offices for House members. Providing offices to members of the House, their staff, the structure contains approximately 800,000 sf.

The Cannon Building had not seen a major renovation since the 1930’s. So, in 2014, a 10-year a comprehensive renewal of the entire building began. The project’s scope includes every room, every system, and every finish within the building, and is being performed in five phases. The building is divided into four sections which will each be vacated until each section’s renovation is complete. The scope of the renovation for each section includes exterior envelope repair and waterproofing, roofing, removal and reconstruction of the fifth floor, new interior finishes, and removal and replacement of mechanical, electrical, lighting, plumbing, communications, security, and life safety systems.
