Robert L. Bogomolny Library, Baltimore, MD
This prominent feature of the University of Baltimore campus was originally constructed in 1965, and dutifully served UB’s campus until 2016, when a long-overdue renovation began. The exterior of the Langsdale Library (as it was previously called) featured a ground floor of dark glass and the upper levels constructed with a brownish pebble facia. The interior finishes and furnishings were well maintained, but aside from minor updates over the years, generally harkened back to the days of the building’s original construction. The interior and exterior renovation sought to improve the library’s functionality and efficiency, but also to improve the exterior appearance. The work completed has transformed this building into a physical and functional representation of the University’s future. The building’s dark exterior has been replaced with a bright white angular exterior and a west face is composed of a slanted vertical glass which provides a unique solution to air circulation, sound attenuation, and life safety systems.
